Labour job costing

Where did the money go?

See every hour of direct labour — including overtime, Saturday and Sunday premiums — costed to the site and activity where it was worked. Automatically, every pay run.

Follow one employee’s working week, from clock-in to accounting.

Step 1 — On site

One employee. Many jobs.

Meet John. On Thursday he pours concrete at The Grove Mall, then lays bricks at Lintons Corner. Later that week he clears rubble at Irene — three sites and three activities on one employee record.

Loading live clocks…

Scale that across a distributed workforce. Every clock record still keeps its employee, site, and activity.

Step 2 — Capture

Different ways to clock. One employee record.

Clock with a biometric device, a mobile clock-in inside a geofence, or facial recognition at different sites. Every record flows into the same AllWage portal, already tagged with its site and activity.

Ten clock records become one 70-hour week, ready for time and attendance.

Step 3 — Time and attendance

An hour isn’t just an hour.

What an hour costs depends on when it was worked. In this example, weekdays have eight normal hours, Saturday has five, and Sunday pays double.

Weekly total

Daily or weekly, AllWage applies the configured pay rules before costing the work.

Step 4 — The hard part

Whose overtime is it?

John worked 11 hours across two sites on Thursday. Three are overtime. Which job should carry the premium?

Step 5 — The payoff

True labour cost per job.

Every one of John’s 70 hours lands on the site where it was worked, with its share of overtime and Sunday premiums. This is labour cost per job, not an hours report dressed up as one.

If a record has no site, it stays Unallocated. AllWage never spreads it across jobs.

Step 6 — Into the books

The pay run becomes a balanced journal.

Once payroll is finalised, AllWage exports what the week cost as debits and who is owed as credits. Both sides balance to the cent.

One overtime line. Every job behind it.

Most payroll exports stop at R 680.18 of overtime. AllWage lets you trace that same total by activity and by site.

Job costing FAQ

Labour job costing, answered.

Common questions about turning clocked time and payroll rules into labour cost per job.

Why isn’t time and attendance enough for job costing?

Time and attendance confirms the hours, but not their final cost. Overtime, weekend rates, and weekly thresholds are decided in payroll, so job costing must use payroll’s answer.

How does AllWage split overtime across jobs?

AllWage splits normal and premium hours across every site-and-activity record in proportion to time worked. The same rule runs every pay period.

Does cost per job include premiums?

Yes. Each job carries its share of overtime, Saturday, Sunday, and public-holiday premiums — not only base hours.

What happens when a clock record has no site?

It stays on an explicit Unallocated line. AllWage does not invent a site or spread the cost across other jobs.

From clock-in to accounts

One rule. Every rand accounted for.

Payroll works out what each hour costs and splits premiums by time worked. Job reports and journals use the same answer, every pay run.

One costing rule from payroll to the journal. No re-keying. No second method.
